GLP-1 Tracker App: What to Look for (and What to Avoid)
Two years ago, "GLP-1 tracker app" barely returned any results. Today, the App Store is full of them. Some are excellent, some are cash-grabs, and a surprising number quietly cross the line from lifestyle tool to implied medical guidance. This piece is a plain, honest guide to what a good GLP-1 app actually needs to do — and what to be careful about.
We build one of these apps ourselves (GLPWeigh), so we are not going to pretend to be neutral. But the criteria below are the ones we would apply if we were shopping for someone else — a friend, a parent, a partner just starting Wegovy.
What a GLP-1 tracker app actually needs to do well
The core job is small, and that is the point:
- Log your dose. Which medication, which dose, which day, which injection site (for rotation). A one-tap flow matters more than fancy UI.
- Log your weight. Fast entry, and — crucially — a smoothed trend line so you are not reading noise as signal.
- Log how you actually feel. A quick daily check-in for side effects, energy, sleep, mood. Not every app does this well; many just track weight and shots.
- Show you patterns, not raw data. The point of logging for months is being able to look back and see something honest about your own routine.
- Stay in its lane. A tracker app is not your prescriber. Good apps make that boundary clear.
What matters more than most feature lists
Habit design
An app you check for fifteen seconds every morning beats an app with forty features that you open twice a month. Look for daily entry flows that respect that a real person is using this while making coffee, not sitting down to do data entry.
Privacy
You are entering weight, medication doses, and health notes. Read the privacy policy. Look for: local storage or private user-scoped cloud storage, no ad networks, no sale of health data to third parties. GLP-1 data is deeply personal.
Medical restraint
Some apps push toward interpreting your data — "your dose is working" or "your progress is off track." That is medical territory, and a tracker app is not qualified to say it. Prefer apps that hold the line: track your own patterns, discuss the medical parts with your prescriber.
Data export
If you cannot get your own data out — as CSV, PDF, or shared with HealthKit — you are renting your history from that company. Prefer apps that let you take your records with you, especially the ones you might want to hand to a doctor.
The main options right now
A quick, honest sketch of the leading GLP-1 tracker apps as of mid 2026:
- Shotsy — very strong on injection-date and dose tracking. Well-designed for the "when did I take my shot" question. Less focused on daily habit and reflection. See our GLPWeigh vs Shotsy comparison.
- MeAgain — biggest community energy, transformation and social feed. Great if you want that motivation style; heavier if you just want a quiet log. See our GLPWeigh vs MeAgain comparison.
- Generic weight-loss trackers (LoseIt, MyFitnessPal, etc.) — good for calories, but not built around GLP-1 dose cycles or side-effect patterns.
- GLPWeigh — us. Built around a 15-second daily check-in, an honest weekly reflection, and one gentle coach prompt a day. Explicitly not a medical decision tool.
Free GLP-1 tracker apps: what does "free" really mean?
Most GLP-1 apps advertise a free tier. Read what is actually inside it. Common patterns:
- Free for basic dose logging, paid for any trend view or export.
- Free for a limited time (7 or 14 days) then a hard paywall.
- Free with heavy in-app upsell and ad content — technically free, but not calm.
- Free forever for a genuinely useful core, with premium features that are actually optional. GLPWeigh sits here — the core daily log, weight tracking and weekly reflection are free forever.
Questions to ask before you commit
- Can I log a dose in under ten seconds?
- Does the weight view show me a smoothed trend, not just daily noise?
- Can I record side effects and how I actually feel, not just numbers?
- Does the app clearly say it is not medical advice?
- Is my data mine? Can I export it?
- What happens on the free plan after week one?
- Are the notifications helpful or nagging?
The uncomfortable truth about "the best" GLP-1 app
There is no universal best. The best GLP-1 tracker app is the one you will still be opening in month six, when the initial excitement is gone and the routine is just quietly running in the background. That usually means: simple, calm, honest, and out of your way — not the one with the loudest homepage.
Whichever you choose, the point is not the app. It is having, in six or twelve months, a written record of your own journey that you can actually understand. That record is what makes conversations with your prescriber sharper, and it is what makes the wobbly weeks less scary. Any app that gets you there is doing its job.
This is general information, not medical advice — talk to your prescriber about your own situation.
Keep the calm version of this in one place.
